Position Information    

This is a full-time, permanent (probationary) position.

This is an 'On-Campus Only' Recruitment.  Qualified applicants must be current employees of CSUDH.

Conditions of Employment

Major Duties

Under general direction of the AVP, University Effectiveness, Planning, and Analytics (UEPA), the position will develop assessment tools and plan rigorous, comprehensive processes for highly complex program assessment. The incumbent will act in a high capacity to lead and coordinate the strategic plan for assessing programs specifically for first year experience. Assessment and evaluation framework will include both academic and co-curricular experiences. The position will include capacity building across stakeholders to inform the methodology and strategy with a goal of improving retention and completion. The evaluation will inform data driven decision making, continuous quality improvement, building synergies across programs and the impact of efforts.


Required Education and Experience:

Master's degree in higher education, organizational change, management, or related field. Typically a minimum of five (5) years of expertise in mixed methods designs and extracting and merging data from various data sources to create robust models. experience developing assessment models with a demonstrated track record designing programs for institutional effectiveness.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of research methodology
Skill in building assessment and evaluation models
Design statistical models to detect treatment effects.
Demonstrate expertise in culturally responsive approaches to project design, data collection, and presentation.
Design rubrics to evaluate the level of program effectiveness.
Design models to estimate the likelihood for success of students and identify equity gaps.
Ability to deliver training on data usage, documentation and creating reports.
Ability to reason logically and resolve issues with data, and systems issues.
Effectively present project expectations across units and keep project on track.
Ability to Synthesize findings from complex studies and summarize into subset of key performance indicators to deliver main findings at the executive level
Ability to assess programs at the University and within Higher Education and determine best practices , and review for continuous program development
Ability to lead large group discussions and workshops, focused on the alignment between programs goals and objectives.
Able to use consultative approach to gain consensus.
Requires extensive knowledge of internal policies and procedures
Independently execute daily operations and tactical duties.
Innovative solutions to address problems with short and long term implications
Understanding of grant applications and reporting.
Ability to maintain professional standards of the Association of Institutional Research and the American Evaluation Association; including integrity, quality control, and culturally responsive evaluation.
Specialized skills
Assessment within an accreditation context, including report writing, committee participation, and presenting evidence.
Experience working and delivering training in a higher education setting and working on a diverse campus that serves non-traditional students and their families is preferred.
Skill in building assessment and evaluation models in higher education is preferred
Demonstrated expertise in advanced level use of statistical software, navigation of relational databases, and programming queries is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

Doctorate degree is preferred.
Eight (8) years or more experience translating theory to practice that requires substantial judgment, discretion, and advanced communication skills to navigate complex and sensitive topics is preferred


35%  Assessment Framework: Lead and coordinate the strategic plan for assessing first year experience and student engagement measures.  Using logic models, determine how successful programs are to achieving goals. Design, implement, evaluate and communicate the logic models impact to program leaders and campus stakeholders. Test reliability and validity of instruments and the fidelity of program implementation. Develop and measure additional structures that continue program assessment for first year experience and relate to other initiatives focused on student success and retention. 

20%  Research and Methodology: Validate existing and new methods to assess each program, including surveys, focus groups, and student data to analyze progression in new ways. Adopt a mixed methods to obtain robust understanding of student experience. Integrate existing reports across grant efforts, CSU program initiatives and other studies.

20%  Capacity Building: Work with programs to determine measurable outcomes. Determine proper methods to measure and align goals and objectives.  Train program leaders on implementation tools for their teams which are aligned to program outcomes.  Identify opportunities for collaboration and connect assessment efforts across programs. Serve as a technical advisor/ campus resource for quantitative and qualitative assessment techniques.

15%  Assessment Infrastructure: Identify, gather, and evaluate technology systems used campus wide to leverage design elements and make recommendations to create and build assessment infrastructure.  Synthesize and streamline information to create assessment specifications for Campus Labs. Work with IT team to design specifications, re-implement assessment components in Campus Labs and support the assessment infrastructure.  Train users on new systems, provide training documentation, and generate reports.
