This is a full-time, permanent (probationary) position.
Conditions of Employment
Possession of a valid Driver's License is required. Employees in this position will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Government Employer Pull Notice Program which confirms possession of a valid driver's license and reflects driving record.
Employment is contingent upon the candidate passing a pre-employment physical exam with the ability to lift up in excess of 50 lbs.
Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

The salary range for this classification is a minimum of $3,155 to a maximum of $4,950 monthly.
Major Duties
Under the general supervision of the Manager of Grounds and Landscaping, the Groundworker, performs tasks at a high quality and efficient manner associated with grounds maintenance and landscape installation.
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:
One year of experience in the care and maintenance of landscaped areas or in general grounds maintenance work, or in related manual labor.
Preferred Qualifications: Two years of commercial and professional experience in grounds maintenance and landscape installation.
Certification: Valid Driver's License
Required Knowledge, Skills, and abilities:
General knowledge of grounds maintenance and landscaping. Ability to recognize the more common species of ornamental shrubs, trees, and flowers grown in California; perform strenuous physical work as described in this classification; utilize mechanical aptitude and motor coordination; learn to skillfully operate small trucks and power-driven grounds equipment; read and write al a level appropriate to the duties of the position, and follow simple oral and written instructions.
Special Tools:
Small tools include but are not limited to: string line trimmers, hedge trimmers, mowers, chainsaws, blowers, walk-behind edgers, small hand tools, utility vehicles, pull behind blowers, pressure washers, and any other related material and piece of equipment related to the maintenance and installation of landscaping on the campus grounds. Responsibilities
80% Grounds maintenance and landscaping Responsible for grounds maintenance and landscape installation, which includes but is not limited to the following: string line trimming, hedge trimming, weed abatement, weeding, blowing, seeding, mulching, watering, irrigation maintenance, and minor system repair, fertilization, planting, cultural practices, low branching of trees, assisting on landscape projects, trash pick up, emptying trash receptacles, planting flowers, soil cultivation, washing of hardscape, sanitizing and disinfecting campus amenities, power washing, leaf raking, spot irrigation of dry areas, perform minor repairs and maintenance on small tools and equipment, the lining of athletic fields, sports field maintenance, baseball, and softball field dugout cleaning, tree staking, utilization of all small tools and equipment related to grounds maintenance and basic landscape installation.
15% Responsible for daily clean-up and organization of tools, vehicles, and workspace in addition to completing all required paperwork.
5% Other related duties as assigned
