Position Description

Associate Director, Admissions and Recruitment– Outreach Services

This is a full-time management (MPP) position.  MPP employees serve at the pleasure of the campus President.  MPPs do not serve a probationary period and never receive permanent status.

Classification Title: Administrator I

Classification Salary Range:

Salary is commensurate with experience.

About the Department/Position:

Under the general direction of the Executive Director of Admissions and Recruitment, the Associate Director administers, directs, plans, organizes, coordinates, and supervises admissions evaluation units, the workflow unit and manages these units within the Admissions and Recruitment office with other university offices and programs. The incumbent also administers, directs, plans, organizes, coordinates, and supervises the Recruitment efforts of statewide High School and Community College visits, Campus Tours, Transfer and Returning Student Orientation and Strategic Initiative efforts aimed at prospective First year and Transfer students. Additionally, this position is responsible for the supervision of professional staff and continued training and professional staff development.

May require working evenings and weekends per the student enrollment life cycle.

Requires valid driver's license and auto insurance.

Overview of Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the design, administration, coordination and evaluation of a comprehensive recruitment and yield plan.
  • Designs strategic recruitment efforts to increase geographic, economic, and diverse populations at DH in conjunction with establishing a direct pipeline of applicants to DH.
  • Represents CSUDH to constituents on and off campus; including but not limited to, University Advising, faculty, staff, Chancellor’s initiatives, and CSU Counselors Conferences.
  • Responsible for adhering to CSU policy and Title 5 California Education Code of Regulations for application processing, residency and makes timely decisions to ensure critical deadlines are met.
  • Makes recommendations for improving services to various constituencies when appropriate.
  • Makes recommendations for the enhancement and expansion of existing systems. In consultation with the Director of Enrollment management, develops and maintains regular and ad-hoc reports to monitor the status of work flow and to provide critical data and information to management.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university.
  • Experience: Professional experience of two to five years with two years of experience as a supervisor and/or manager and three years of experience in a public university with Admission and Recruitment, project/program management, PeopleSoft, OnBase and Enrollment Marketing Platform.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of: Recruitment and yield strategies, Early Outreach initiatives, Strategic recruitment initiatives, comprehensive knowledge of CSU university admissions and evaluations operations.
  • Thorough knowledge of PeopleSoft student information system, OnBase and Enrollment Marketing Platform (EMP).
  • Ability to provide strong leadership in the development and implementation of program policies, regulations, procedures, and precedent cases related to Admissions and Recruitment.
  • General knowledge of principles, problems, and methods of public administration, including organizational personnel and fiscal management and techniques used for hiring, performance evaluation and motivating employees.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a related field such as Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration or Personnel Management.
  • Three to five years proven CSU professional experience coordinating the efforts of professional staff, student staff, working with faculty, campus administrators and demonstrated experience providing services to Gen Z students.
  • Experience providing written reports, analyzing data and making recommendations for workflow, projects and programs.
  • Knowledge of laws/rules regarding residency for tuition purposes.
  • Thorough knowledge of FERPA and national practices and procedures to ensure compliance.
  • Ability: Rapidly adapt to CSUDH procedures and policies.
  • Provide sound recommendations based on state or institutional policy.
  • Communicate verbally and in writing with on campus and off campus constituents.
  • Select, supervise, train and evaluate staff.
  • Demonstrate exceptional ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • Use administrative computing systems at advanced level.
  • Learn new platforms or software modules as needed.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within campus community partners.
  • Work in a multicultural/multi-ethnic environment and keep open lines of communication with faculty and administrators, colleagues and high school/college staff contacts.
  • Skilled in: consultative decision-making, demonstrated strengths in leadership, planning and evaluation and exceptional interpersonal soft skills.
  • Also requires skills in communication and written skills, project management, critical thinking, problem-solving and leadership skills. Must be self-motivating.
