MPP employees serve at the pleasure of the campus President.  MPPs do not serve a probationary period and never receive permanent status. 

Classification Title: Administrator II 

Position Salary Range: $8,570 - $12,854 per month  

The anticipated hiring range for this position is $10,000 - $10,758 per month.  

Salary is commensurate with experience.

About the Department/Position:  

Under the general direction of the Associate Vice President/Director of Athletics, the Senior Associate Athletic Director/Chief Operating Officer (Sr. AD) will plan, direct, and manage the departments operations including Intercollegiate Athletics (ICA) programs, business administration, and facilities. The Sr. AD will assist the AVP with the development of policies and procedures. Specific areas of responsibility will include Sports Administration, Facilities Management and Rental, Capital Projects, Game Day Management, and other administrative responsibilities. This position will also supervise several Head Coaches, selected sports as a Sports Supervisor, and other administrative responsibilities. The Senior Associate Athletic Director will also serve as the Chief Operating Officer for the department and share responsibility for adapting program activities, services, and practices to correspond with the needs of the Athletics Department; the University's service area; and the dynamics of the institution. Primarily focused on administering established policies and procedures but may have some impact on departmental budgeting, strategic planning, and procedural change. This position is a full-time administrative position. 

The schedule may vary depending on athletic events requiring some evenings and weekends. 

Overview of Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Directs the operational aspects including budget planning and monitoring for ICA of all intercollegiate programs as assigned.  

  • Supervises the team support functions including individual travel, lodging and food arrangements for teams on away trips as well as individual contest officials for home events. 

  • Provides day-to-day operations of the department and direction to coaches and staff and makes decisions for department operations in the Director’s absence.  

  • Supports the development and implementation of the department strategic plan, establishing and enforcing department-wide priorities, setting short- and long-term goals. 

  • Participates with the management of all indoor and outdoor athletic facilities. 

  • Oversee human resources related activities including, but not limited to initiates recruitments, processing and hiring of student assistants, faculty, and staff appointments and participates in the selection processes, evaluating staff work performance, and establishing priorities and timelines for tasks and projects. 

Minimum Qualifications:  

  • Equivalent to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. 

  • Five (5) years of experience in college athletics, which has included training and supervising the work of others. 

  • Experience working with a diverse and multicultural population and performing community services. 

  • California Driver License

  • Ability to effectively manage and deliver student-oriented services on a campus with a diverse student body and staff using modern management and administrative techniques related to the development and implementation of appropriate methods of work planning, scheduling, and coordination. 

  • Assist with the planning, organization, and direction of others in the formation of programs and policies within the operation. 

  • Communicate in a professional and effective manner - in both written and oral forms; and establish and maintain effective working relationships that promote professionalism and mutual respect in a multicultural and diverse academic community. 

  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) rules. Ability to interpret and apply federal, state, and university policies and regulations pertaining to the Athletics Department. 

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Master's Degree from an accredited college or university 

  • Gather and analyze data; reason logically draws valid conclusions and make appropriate recommendations. 

  • Participate in and contribute to group meetings, conferences, and interviews.  

  • Present clear and concise information orally and in written reports.  

  • Train and evaluate the productivity and performance of other employees; analyze situations and take connective action. 

  • Strong skills in communication, management, and leadership skills. 

  • Proficient in the use of personal computers, including spreadsheets and database software.   

  • Working knowledge of a student information system, such as PeopleSoft.   

  • Strong problem solving and conflict-resolution skills.  

  • General knowledge of personal computer software for business functions; especially spreadsheets, databases, word processing applications, and email.
