About the Department/Position:
Under the general direction of the Director of Enterprise Systems, the Systems and Database Administrator is responsible for providing ongoing operational, technical, and analytic support for various University applications such as PeopleSoft, Oracle, Tableau, SFTP, and mobile platforms on both Linux and Windows OS. The role entails consulting with stakeholders and adhering to project management methodologies. The position involves documenting detailed specifications, instructions, and procedures, and presenting results to management. It also involves providing design and support for middle-tier infrastructure such as web and application servers, as well as database administration support for Oracle/MS SQL Server databases on Windows and Linux. Additionally, the role includes supporting the migration of applications/databases from development to production and applying upgrades, fixes, and patches to Enterprise Systems.
The ideal candidate for this position should be self-motivated, capable of working with minimal supervision, technically proficient, and able to communicate complex technical matters with business users. The incumbent is also responsible for addressing any concerns or issues regarding technical or functional operations with the appropriate supervisor and documenting the cause of an issue and its resolution.
This position may require the incumbent to be on-call 24/7 to assist in resolving emergency or urgent issues. The incumbent is required to maintain contact with their campus outside of their normal working hours on a regular basis per the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement requirements. Remote contact shall include telephone, cell phone, wireless data access device, remote monitoring of any hardware or software device, and/or electronic mail notification regarding the status of a campus system.
Overview of Duties and Responsibilities:
- Create, support and maintain databases required for development, testing and production usages on both Windows and Linux OS.
- Provide guidance and deliver solutions that ensure effective and efficient backup and recovery of Oracle and SQL database environments.
- Monitor database applications and makes recommendations on upgrades or new functionality.
- Clearly communicate with all constituents and be proactive in communication regarding issues, projects, status updates, questions, and any other items pertaining to job responsibilities.
- Acts as subject matter expert and provides clear communications and instructions to all constituents.
Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, educational technology, communications, or related fields, or similar certified coursework in applicable fields of study.

Experience: Three (3) to Six (6) years of full-time relevant experience designing and supporting middle-tier infrastructure such as web and application servers and database administration support for Oracle/MS SQL Server databases.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Thorough knowledge of PeopleSoft, Oracle, Tableau, SFTP, Mobile, PeopleSoft Portal, and other University applications, productivity tools, Oracle/MS SQL databases, and utilities including but not limited to Oracle, SQL, PUSQL, Integration Broker, Process Scheduler, Unix/Linux, and Windows OS.
- Thorough proficiency in identifying security issues involved in maintaining and safeguarding institutional data.
- Working knowledge and ability to apply the Software Development Life Cycle.
- Consultative skills with the ability to work and communicate with users to define and meet data needs and requirements.
- Capable of planning and working on shared or joint projects and coordinating with others to achieve agreed-upon outcomes.
