Compensation and Benefits


Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $5,540 - $5,817 per month

Full CSU Classification Salary Range: $5,540 - $7,893 per month

  • This is a full-time, probationary, exempt position.

The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 15 paid holidays a year. Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Director of EOP, the incumbent provides complex student counseling and advising services to support the academic, personal, and social development of an assigned caseload of Renaissance Scholar students. The Renaissance Scholars Program serves Fresno State undergraduate and graduate students who have experienced foster care and students who are certified independent youth.

The position requires the application of a high degree of judgment, or persuasiveness, imagination and professional skills and knowledge in serving students and developing creative solutions which integrate approaches across organizational lines. The position requires a general understanding of the interrelationships and the need for coordinated action within the total Student Services program. The position requires considerable administrative planning and responsibility for recognizing program needs and for developing approaches for possible implementation to meet these needs.

 

Key Qualifications

  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills with ability to develop and facilitate workshops and presentations related to academic success.
  • Research, compile and analyze data to develop valid conclusions and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Ability to be responsive, innovative, results oriented and student centered in advising diverse students individually and in groups on complex student‑related matters and determining appropriate courses of action.
  • Appropriately and professionally interact with students, faculty and other support staff and apply proper techniques while engaged with individuals in personal interactions of an argumentative or sensitive nature.
  • Understand and abide with the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and State of California policy regarding the confidentiality of records.
  • Reason logically and use sound judgment and problem-solving skills to recommend creative, effective, and practical solutions.

Education and Experience

  • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, including or supplemented by upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job-related and three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience.
  • A master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience. A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling or guidance may be substituted for the three years of experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional career or personal counseling.
