Major Duties

Under general supervision, the ES Center for RACE Support Coordinator supports the daily administrative, fiscal, and operational functions of the Ethnic Studies (ES) Center for Research, Activism, and Community Empowerment (RACE). Responsibilities include coordinating office activities, maintaining accurate financial and personnel records, preparing expenditure reports, and assisting with program and event logistics. The coordinator plays an essential role in facilitating communication between the Center and Ethnic Studies departments, assisting with student recruitment and timekeeping, managing confidential records, and supporting the Director with reports, meetings, and special projects that strengthen the Center’s academic and community partnerships.

  • Assists with recruiting and onboarding student assistants, including budget oversight and time entry.
  • Reviews the center’s budget and processes all expenditures through the proper procurement process.
  • Creates and maintains confidential student, Board member, and personnel files, as well as fellowship records and Advisory Board and CSUN CES meeting documentation.
  • Responsible for assisting with the coordination of Center meetings, including preparing the Board meeting agenda and minutes.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Equivalent to five (5) years of full-time, progressively responsible administrative or technical office management experience in an administrative capacity exercising independent judgment and leading the work of others.
  • Equivalent to full-time college or university education/vocational school training in business or job-related field may be substituted for up to two (2) years of the required experience.

 

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate complex administrative functions with accuracy and attention to detail. Knowledge of fiscal tracking and budget oversight practices, including timekeeping and expenditure documentation. Skilled in organizing and prioritizing multiple tasks such as student onboarding, report preparation, and event logistics in a fast-paced academic environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills to serve as an effective administrative liaison between the Center and multiple Ethnic Studies departments and community partners. Ability to coordinate vendor communications, maintain professional correspondence, and support Advisory Board engagement through outreach, website updates, and promotional activities.
  • Thorough knowledge of budget management principles, fiscal reporting, and procurement processes within a university or comparable setting. Ability to review and reconcile financial transactions, process budget transfers, and prepare detailed monthly and annual fiscal reports with accuracy and compliance to institutional policies.
  • Proficiency in processing financial and travel documentation through systems such as myCSUNglobe or similar platforms. Ability to apply established procedures for expenditures, reimbursements, and fund management across multiple accounts, including state, foundation, and TUC funds, while ensuring accuracy, accountability, and adherence to university fiscal guidelines.

 

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

  • The university offers an excellent benefits package, including but not limited to: medical, dental, vision, retirement & savings, tuition waiver, and more.
  • Classification: Administrative Support Coordinator / 1035 / 2
  • The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $4367 - $4821 per month, dependent upon qualifications and experience. The salary range for this classification is: $4367 - $6362 per month.
  • HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday.
  • This is a Regular position with a one-year probationary period. 
  • The position is currently hybrid (4 days in office, 1 day remote); however, this is subject to change based on student and/or operational needs.
