Job Summary:  

This position operates under the Department of Digital Transformation. The AI Onboarding and Outreach Student Assistant will support the adoption and awareness for university chatbot (Ask Cody). The student will be expected to focus on the communication and outreach surrounding Cody: promoting a culture of engagement across campus, as well as assisting in best usage practices. The student will assist with interaction analysis and analytics as necessary. The student may perform the task of live agent, taking over for the bot when necessary to speak directly with the end user.

The position is best suited for someone enthusiastic about connecting with others, creative in communication strategies, and a willingness to ask questions. An openness to learning about chatbot technology, analytics, and system design is encouraged. 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:  

Under direct supervision, duties include but not limited to:

  • Assist in developing user-friendly guides, FAQs, and orientation materials to help new students and staff/faculty understand Ask Cody
  • Assist with orientations, workshops, and events to promote chatbot awareness and support
  • Monitor community feedback; track patterns in usage and summarize findings for the chatbot team, and department supervisors
  • Create visual and digital content (social media posts, flyers, or slides) to explain how and why to use Ask Cody
  • Connect user feedback with potential improvements in both technical and user experience, using patterns in user questions and challenges
  • Collaborate with the chatbot development team to align campus outreach with system goals
  • Perform as a live agent during live chatbot interactions
  • Work collaboratively to invent or enhance outreach and engagement strategies
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, depending on the evolving needs of the project

Daily Duties:

  • Draft or update guides, FAQs, and orientation materials.
  • Assist with outreach events and activities such as orientations or tabling.
  • Monitor feedback and categorize common questions or issues.
  • Create and publish digital outreach content (visuals, slides, social media).
  • Coordinate regularly with supervisors to set task priorities.
  • Ask questions often if priorities or tasks are unclear.
  • When possible, contribute observations that may inform chatbot improvements.
  • Take on additional assigned tasks to support the broader goals of Digital Transformation.

Minimum Qualifications:  

  • Ability to learn and perform assigned work; follow oral instructions; work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and other students; communicate effectively with all levels; and read and write English at a level appropriate to the position.  
  • Special Qualification: Admission or registration as a CSU student.  

Required Qualifications  

  • Maintain a 2.0 G.P.A. or greater per semester and cumulative.  
  • Students must be enrolled in at least halftime units at CSUSB (6 units undergraduate; 3 units graduate)  
  • International students must have full-time enrollment at CSUSB. (12 units undergraduate; 6 units graduate)  
  • Eligible to work in the United States  
  • Payroll Requirement: Social Security Card  

Preferred Qualifications  

  • Excellent Oral and Written Communication Skills in English
  • Must be reliable, conscientious, responsible, and curious
  • Experience developing educational or promotional content (guides, FAQs, slides, or tutorials)
  • Experience with social media, digital outreach, and/or graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Suite)
  • Ability to understand and summarize feedback clearly and identify common themes
  • Familiarity with collaboration tools such as Google Docs and Google Sheets
  • Interest in data analytics, Natural Language Processing (NLP), and Generative AI platforms (ChatGPT, Google Gemini, etc.) 

Compensation and Benefits:  

Student Employment Anticipated Hiring Range: $16.50 per hour.  

The compensation offered will consider internal equity and experience among other factors.  

Position Information:  

Work status: Part-Time, Temporary, Seasonal

Academic year available hours: Monday through Friday (8:00 am – 5:00 pm).  

Summer available hours: Monday through Thursday (7:00 am - 5:30 pm).  

This is an 'On-Campus Only' position. Student Employees are not eligible to telecommute at any time.  

As of January 1, 2022, the CSU Out-of-State Employment Policy prohibits the hiring of employees to perform CSU-related work outside the state of California.  

California State University, San Bernardino in not a sponsoring agency for staff or management positions (i.e. H1-B Visas).

Background Check   

Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) may be required for student employment purposes. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information.  Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check when required may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.  

Driver’s License Check   

Possession of a valid Driver's License may be required.  Employees in this position will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Government Employer Pull Notice Program which confirms possession of a valid driver's license and reflects driving record.
