Classification Title: Operating Systems Analyst - II

Classification Salary Range: $5,158 - $12,730 per month

The anticipated hiring range for this position is $6,000 - $6,300 per month.

The final salary is dependent upon qualifications and experience.

About the Department/Position:

Under the general direction of the Instructional Design and Technology Services Director, the Academic Technology Systems Analyst is responsible for optimizing the Learning Management System (LMS), particularly Canvas, and its integration with cloud-based tools to ensure seamless functionality across the campus. This role focuses on enhancing the learning experience by integrating AI-powered tools, adaptive learning platforms, and predictive analytics while ensuring systems remain user-friendly for faculty, staff, and students. The AT Services and Operations Specialist works with faculty, instructional designers, and analytics teams to implement innovative tools, monitor student engagement, and support data-informed decision-making. They deliver workshops and training sessions focused on practical applications of AI and instructional technology. This role also guides and train CSUDH’s IT support and call center agents who assist the campus via ZOOM, phone, chat, and SMS. The Specialist ensures system performance, resolves technical issues, and drives process improvements to enhance operational efficiency. By analyzing data from IT support services, they identify trends, recommend strategies for improvement, and provide actionable insights into performance metrics. The Operations Specialist aligns academic technology with institutional goals, fostering an innovative and responsive learning environment that empowers educators and students.

 Overview of Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Learning Management System (LMS) Optimization:
    • Support cloud-based integrations to ensure optimal functionality of the Canvas LMS and related systems.
    • Integrate AI-powered tools to enhance learning outcomes and data-informed decision-making.
    • Oversee Canvas configuration, ensuring compatibility and smooth integration with other systems as required.
  • Cloud Service Support for Faculty:
    • Collaborate with faculty to understand research needs and recommend suitable cloud or academic platforms.
    • Assisting faculty with selecting and implementing appropriate cloud-based tools and platforms for research.
    • Collaborating with relevant IT teams to ensure seamless system interoperability with cloud services.
  • Support AI Systems and tools  in Teaching and Learning:
    • Regularly audit data exchanges to identify and correct inconsistencies.
    • Support and integrate AI-driven features to monitor student engagement, identify at-risk students, and enhance personalized learning.
    • Research emerging AI technologies and recommend new applications to meet faculty and student needs
  • Performance Tracking and Insights:
    • Monitor and analyze Canvas data on student performance to uncover trends and support academic departments.
    • Develop and maintain reports and dashboards that reflect Canvas outcomes and key performance indicators.
    • Analyze data from IT call and support center interactions, including call volume, response times, and issue resolution outcomes, to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Academic Technology Services:
    • Ensure effective troubleshooting, issue resolution, and high-quality customer service in line with CSUDH’s mission and operational standards.
    • Monitor and maintain the performance of Academic Technology integrated applications, addressing any technical issues promptly. Implement solutions to enhance system performance, ensuring the consistent and reliable operation of Canvas and other key systems across campus

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in IT support operations or system integration.
  • Familiarity with cloud integration platforms and data connectivity solutions.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Proficiency in programming languages for scripting and automation (Python, JavaScript).

Experience with database management (SQL) and cloud-based integration tools.

Strong understanding of Canvas LMS Backend or similar learning management systems.

Ability to analyze and optimize system performance using monitoring tools.

Demonstrated ability to perform remote diagnostics and ability to perform analysis and tuning of system.

Experience with data analysis tools and techniques, particularly for analyzing call center metrics and trends.

Ability to stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and best practices in cloud integration, IT support, and educational technology.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree in IT, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Experience with Canvas or similar learning management systems is a plus.
  • Candidates should have strong programming skills in Python and JavaScript, along with SQL experience for database management. Familiarity with Canvas LMS or similar systems is essential, as is the ability to analyze system performance and troubleshoot cloud integration issues.
  • Effective communication skills are necessary for understanding user needs and facilitating training sessions.
  • Experience with IT service management tools and project management in collaborative settings is important, along with a commitment to enhancing user experiences and staying updated on emerging technologies in educational technology.
