This appointment duration may not exceed the maximum of 180 days.

Classification Salary Range: $4,799 - $6,992 per month (Full-time equivalent)

Starting salary $2,399 Per Month (Step 1) (Part-time equivalent)

Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Esports Program Director, the Esports Specialist manages daily operations of the Esports Lab, including scheduling, event coordination, administrative tasks, purchasing, budget tracking, and media production. The role supports esports team management and oversees hardware/software contracts. As the primary on-site staff member, the Specialist ensures smooth lab operations during peak hours and builds effective relationships across departments and vendors.

Special working Conditions:

  • Part-time position: 20 hours per week
  • Evening-focused schedule: Monday–Thursday evenings, Friday 8:00 AM–5:00 PM
  • Occasional Saturdays and weekends required for events and tournaments
  • Schedule may vary during Summer and Winter Breaks in alignment with library operating hours

Key Responsibilities:

  • Program Operations & Coordination
    • Oversee daily Esports activities including tournaments, leagues, streaming, and lab operations.
    • Schedule practices, matches, and lab reservations with student teams.
    • Coordinate live broadcasts of matches and events using OBS Studio and streaming platforms like Twitch.
    • Submit and manage work orders with Facilities Management to support program needs.
  • Collaboration & Communication
    • Liaise with IT staff, faculty, campus partners, and sponsors to ensure smooth operations.
    • Manage Esports program communications via social media and campus email.
    • Maintain accurate website content and submit updates as needed.
  • Marketing & Data Management
    • Develop and execute marketing strategies aligned with program goals.
    • Collect and analyze data on lab usage, team performance, and social media engagement.
  • Administrative Support
    • Prepare and process purchases, contracts, and renewals for equipment and services.
    • Reconcile monthly P-Card statements and manage student assistant hiring paperwork.
    • Coordinate department events, vendor appointments, and external engagements.
    • Support staff hiring processes including onboarding documentation and scheduling.
  • Staff & Student Oversight
    • Provide direction to student assistants and track work hours.
    • Manage scheduling, attendance, and time-off tracking for Esports staff.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree and/or equivalent training and administrative work two (2) year experience in Esports involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experienced with collegiate tournaments, and have a good understanding of the current esports industry 
  • Extended knowledge, experience, and expertise in esports, video games, and the collegiate esports ecosystem
  • Possesses a working understanding of the current esports and video games industry.
  • Ability to create, plan, and execute effective social media posts
  • A strong customer service attitude and commitment.
  • Knowledge of a university's infrastructure, policies, and procedures or in an organization with similar complexity
  • Experience working with most popular collegiate tournaments such as PlayVS, NACE , the NECC, RSAA, and an in-depth understanding of the various video games that compete within them.
  • Knowledge and ability to stream to Twitch, including the use of tools such as OBS studios and the Adobe creative suite which are used to create broadcasts. Knowledge of best practices for AV setup and Tricaster systems is a plus
  • Experience in creating and posting content on popular social media platforms geared towards gaming communities (Twitch, Discord, X, Instagram, Youtube, etc.)
  • Ability to plan, schedule, communicate, and coordinate programs and events; provide a full spectrum of support
  • Experience and familiarity with popular video games. Ability to "talk shop" with students and esports players of various titles and backgrounds
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships and work effectively both independently or as part of a team is required
  • Ability to establish and build strong partnerships with campus constituents
  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple tasks simultaneously is required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Equivalent to a four-year degree from an accredited college or university in Business, Public Administration or a closely related field.
  • Active in playing video games, using Discod, and interacting on Twitch 
  • Avid viewer of professional level Esports tournaments and competitions
  • Proficient in analyzing and executing operational and procedural problems and developing, recommend and evaluating proposed solutions
