Employment Specialist – Human Resources

This is a full-time, permanent (probationary) position.

Classification Title: Confidential Administrative Support II

Classification Salary Range: $4,464 - $10,180 monthly.

The final salary is dependent upon qualifications, and experience.

About the Department/Position:

Under the general direction of the Employment Manager, the Employment Specialist provides support in the administration of recruitment processes for open staff and management positions in the university; this will include reviewing position descriptions, determining appropriate classification, and making recommendations to hiring managers to determine an appropriate salary. The incumbent will also prepare materials and reports that will be used for management strategies and positions in terms of grievances, information requests, and other meetings with union representatives. This position is expected to regularly participate in CSUDH management caucuses during the meet and confer sessions with unions and systemwide human resources, in order to evaluate information and determine the campus' position in local bargaining. The typical work schedule is M - F 8:00 am - 5:00 pm.

Overview of Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides support to the recruitment program for assigned open staff and management positions in accordance with federal and state laws, CSU policies and procedures, and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Post and research job advertisements in various publications/job sites
  • Research in identifying outside advertising resources and work with hiring departments to identify specialized job boards for hard-to-fill positions.
  • Participate in campus and system-wide planning and committee activities
  • Conduct compensation reviews of new positions and make appropriate compensation recommendations.
  • Participate in CSUDH management caucuses during the meet and confer sessions with unions and systemwide human resources, in order to evaluate information and determine the campus' position in local bargaining.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Working knowledge of recruiting and employment processes;
  • Working knowledge of HR principles, methods, and related state and federal laws/regulations;
  • Working knowledge of personal computers and related software including Microsoft Office;
  • Ability to learn and apply University policies, procedures, and guidelines;
  • Ability to apply independent judgment, discretion, and initiative to address routine problems;
  • Ability to set priorities and organize multiple daily responsibilities and/or projects;
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment;
  • Excellent public relations skills and the ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships;

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and/or professional training program specific to the position and a minimum of two (2) years directly related work experience, or a combination of education and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in Talent Acquisition
