Position Description

Working Title: Proposal Development Specialist 

Classification Title: Administrative Analyst/Specialist Exempt I

Classification Salary Range: $4,170 - $7,545 monthly

The final salary is dependent upon qualifications and experience.

About the Position

Under the general direction of the Director of Sponsored Research and in collaboration with the Programs and Research Development Program Leader, the Proposal Development Specialist supports the campus community in the development and submission of proposals for external funding. Working independently, the incumbent supports faculty, staff, and administrators through all phases of grant proposal development, including concept development, funding search, alignment, planning, writing, and submission. The deadline-based nature of the position requires that the Proposal Development Specialist occasionally work outside of regular office hours.

Overview of Duties and Responsibilities

  • Establish and cultivate relationships with faculty, staff, and other key campus stakeholders to stay informed of current research and programmatic activities at CSUDH.
  • Identify new funding opportunities and match to faculty research interests.
  • Assist in identifying, developing, and delivering training to CSUDH faculty and staff on grant-related topics.
  • Work with CSUDH principal investigators to apply for external grant and contract funding.
  • Analyze and evaluate proposals, generate and/or review budgets and route for institutional approval.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent training and administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs, equivalent to three years.

  • Must be able to work independently and effectively in a team-oriented, deadline-driven environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to respond effectively under pressure.
  • Ability to understand and explain funding agency requirements and federal regulations.
  • Computer competency and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Conditions of Employment

  • Possession of a valid Driver's License is required. Employees in this position will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Government Employer Pull Notice Program.
  • Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who apply for the position.
