Classification Salary Range: $5,197 - $6,532 per month

The anticipated hiring range for this position is $5,197 - $5,300 per month.

The final salary is dependent upon qualifications and experience.

About the Department/Position:

The purpose of Building Trades is to deliver services in a cost-effective, timely, courteous, and professional manner, while providing a safe, comfortable, and enhanced learning/working environment utilizing current technology. The section is comprised of seven (7) separate trade shops, one (1) Facilities Project Supervisor/Estimator, and one (1) Facilities Project Supervisor. The trade shops are responsible for maintaining campus structures, roadways, sidewalks, infrastructure, and fleet vehicles.

Under general supervision of the Building Trades Manager, the Facilities Worker independently performs a wide range of complex semi-skilled and basic skilled facilities and system maintenance, repair, and renovation work. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: assist in maintenance and repair of electrical lines and fixtures, plumbing installation and repair, roof repair and cleaning; swimming pool maintenance and cleaning; painting buildings and equipment; and electric golf-cart service and battery maintenance. In addition, the incumbent will perform a variety of duties related to building maintenance work, drive automotive equipment, haul material, requisition supplies and generate records when work is complete.

 Overview of Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Installs, maintains, inspects and makes repairs to all campus buildings, facilities and equipment.
  • Work independently or with other building trades.
  • Perform preventative and predictive maintenance and ensures that all work conforms with all applicable codes and regulations.
  • Maintains and repairs electrical and plumbing lines and fixtures

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education and Experience: Combination of experience and training equivalent to three years of hands on experience in general facilities and systems maintenance and repair, or comparable experience as a trades assistant or laborer with demonstrated proficiency in the required duties.
  • Valid CA driver license

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the common methods, practices and materials used in maintenance and repair work of buildings and building facilities and general knowledge of the various tools used in building maintenance and repair work and their proper use and care.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, shop drawings and layouts; working knowledge of local, state, and federal code regulations, requirement's and industry standards
  • Knowledge and experience in maintenance, electrical repair, swimming pool maintenance and electric golf-cart battery maintenance and repair of plumbing systems, HVAC systems or a combination thereof

  • Extensive knowledge of safety rules, building codes, Cal OSHA requirements, methods practices and procedures in the construction Trades; and knowledge and experience in working with power tools and equipment.

  • Ability to do a variety of semi-skilled maintenance and repair tasks in HVAC, plumbing, electrical and carpentry trades, follow simple oral and written directions, mechanical aptitude, read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the positions and make simple arithmetic computations where required.

  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others.

  • Understands and is able to work at an acceptable level of industry standards.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Education: High School graduation or equivalent, or journey level maintenance worker training is preferred.

  • Experience working in a university or large institutional setting is preferred.
