Position Description

Working Title: Technical Business Analyst
Department Name: Application Operations
Classification Title: Analyst/Programmer - Expert
Classification Salary Range: $6,680 - $12,900 per month
The anticipated hiring range for this position is $8,900 - 9,200 per month.
The final salary is dependent upon qualifications and experience.
About the Department/Position:
Under the general direction of the Director of Enterprise Systems, the Senior Technical Business Analyst is responsible for providing technical support, upgrades, and enhancements to the CSU Dominguez Hill's PeopleSoft Campus Solution System including but not limited to Financial Aid and Student Financials Modules, and other Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems. Works closely with end-users and internal customers to ensure the integrity of the application and data stored in ERP systems. Serve as a liaison between I.T. and business units to coordinate improvements, upgrades, and system testing.
Overview of Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintains comprehensive knowledge of PeopleSoft Campus Solutions, with emphasis on Student Financials and Financial AID, and how these modules are implemented and used within the CSU and at CSUDH.
- Responsible for creating and maintaining digital forms, including creating workflows, and ensuring compliance with CSU Accessible Technology Initiative (ATI).
- Responsible and accountable for monitoring, and responding to, user-reported issues through the university ticketing system; performing root cause analysis leveraging technical tools and techniques (such as data analysis, business process analysis, performing traces, monitoring systems and logs, etc), writing issue resolution and post mortem documentation, testing fixes, coordinating with end users to confirm the proposed fix resolves the issue, and applying fixes to production.
- Use Business Process Improvement (BPI) methodologies to analyze current system processes, and make recommendations on leveraging technology for improved business process efficiency.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduation from a four-year college or university, preferably in computer science or business or equivalent training and applied experience.
- At least eight (8) years of professional-related experience which include system analysis techniques.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Comprehensive knowledge of PeopleSoft Campus Solutions.
- Comprehensive knowledge of standard theories, principles, practices and techniques applicable to a university/high education environment.
- Comprehensive understanding of PeopleSoft equation engine as used by Financial Aid and/or Student Financials.
- Demonstrated working knowledge and experience in performing PeopleSoft tracing and debugging, reading and analyzing trace files, PeopleCode, SQL, and SQR.
- Comprehensive knowledge of and ability to perform methodical root cause analysis, and implement controlled change management techniques to successfully resolve bugs and end user-reported issues.
- Demonstrated ability to stay well organized and tasked with priorities in a high-paced environment.
- Skilled in critical thinking and decision-making.
- Comprehensive understanding of technologies involved in ERP systems such as third-party tools, databases, operating systems, reporting tools, etc.
- Strong familiarity with Systems application development life cycle; software testing.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Financial Aid and Student Financials PeopleSoft Modules.
- Must be able to effectively communicate in meetings and discussions with non-technical people to gather and synthesize requirements.
- Must be able to effectively explain business processes to technical and non-technical people.
- Possess strong reading comprehension skills to evaluate and interpret policies and procedures.
- Comprehensive ability to learn new software releases and modules and analyze technical requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or business, or equivalent training and applied experience.
- Experience in the CSU or higher education.
- Experience with programming and database languages
- Experience with API and integration tools and languages
- At least (10) years of experience using and/or supporting a student information system.
- At least (5) years of experience supporting PeopleSoft Financial Aid and Student Financials modules.
