Outreach and Education Specialist – President’s Office

** Successful candidates in these temporary appointments may be appointed from a few days up to one year depending on the assignment.  Temporary appointments must end on or before the end of the fiscal year, with the possibility of renewal if funds and/or program needs exist.

Classification Title: Administrative Analyst/Specialist - Exempt I

Classification Salary Range:

The anticipated salary range for this position is $3,518 - $6,791 per month.

About the Department/Position:

Within the Office of the Vice President and Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer, this role directly supports the Director of Division Operations and Strategic Initiatives and other unit leadership. The Outreach and Education Specialist will be responsible for providing project leadership and collaboration for unit programs/activities in support of the University’s mission. Among other duties, the specialist will help develop and execute comprehensive plans and strategies to promote and advance diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging initiatives, activities, goals, and objectives. The specialist is responsible for a wide range of activities to help plan and support unit activities and events, with particular emphasis on establishing a campus presence for the Vice President and Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer. Additional responsibilities that fall within the position scope include support for implementing CSUDH’s student, faculty, and staff training, programs, and activities to prevent and support individuals who have experienced sexual misconduct and discrimination.

Overview of Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate unit outreach events and activities.
  • Build strong working relationships with stakeholders to advance unit goals and objectives.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders when necessary to forward DEIJ initiatives as a mission imperative.
  • Develop and disseminate communication to campus and external constituents utilizing effective communication channels.
  • Oversee social media presence, maintenance, and regular posts to social media pages (Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, TikTok, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, etc.).

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience: Equivalent to three (3) years of experience and/or equivalent training and administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with the principles and values of diversity, equity, and inclusion that support the work of the unit.
  • Perform program administration involving independent judgment, accurately and expediently follows and explains clearly established policies and procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality, be flexible, apply discretion and initiation in performing tasks and communicating with high-ranking university officials, community leaders, and internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience delivering presentations and outreach activities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations and a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion.
  • Master’s degree
  • Knowledge of student and adult development learning theories and models.
  • Experience with procedures development and implementation.
  • Experience working in an office related to social justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education setting.
  • Experience using learning management systems and student and employee information systems.
  • Thorough master of English writing skills, excellent interpersonal skills and be extremely well-organized with attention to detail and thorough knowledge of office methods, procedures, and practices.
  • Ability to understand and apply as directed a variety of policies and procedures.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize assignments.
  • Explain clearly various policies and procedures to faculty, staff, community, and the public.
  • Skilled in the research, development, and evaluation of policies and programs.
  • Ability to initiate and draft clear and concise communications.
  • Ability to oversee detail of multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to effectively handle a broader range of interpersonal contacts, including those at a higher level and sensitive in nature.
  • Proven ability to manage projects or programs and deliver results in a timely manner.
  • Working knowledge of operational and fiscal analysis and techniques.
  • Ability to take initiative and plan, organize, coordinate, and perform work in various situations where numerous and diverse demands are involved.
  • Skilled in the research, development, and evaluation of policies and programs.
  • Ability to collect, evaluate, and interpret data to develop sound conclusions and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Expertise in investigating and analyzing problems with broad administrative impact and implications.
  • Ability to anticipate problems, address them proactively, and develop appropriate recommendations leading to solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively interpret, organize, and present information and ideas in written or presentation form and use consultative and facilitation skills to gain consensus.
  • Ability to train others on new skills and procedures and provide lead work direction.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with others.
